Your first visit

What to expect at your psychiatric evaluation

Your first visit is a thorough evaluation of your medical and mental health history. We also work to get to know you on a personal level, because your daily environment, stress, and long-term habits matter in finding the right treatment.

Your evaluation may include a discussion of possible diagnoses, ordering lab work, and requesting prior records. Treatment planning is ongoing and builds over multiple visits; your plan will always adapt as you do.

Helpful to have ready

  • Your insurance card and photo ID
  • A list of current medications, supplements, and doses
  • Past medications you've tried and how they worked
  • Recent lab results or records from other providers
  • Your questions and goals for treatment
  • For children: school reports or evaluations, if available

For telehealth visits, find a private, quiet spot with a good internet connection.
